The classic scene from Five Easy Pieces:
Bobby: I'd like an omelet, plain, and a chicken salad sandwich on wheat toast, no mayonnaise, no butter, no lettuce. And a cup of coffee.
Waitress: A #2, chicken salad sand. Hold the butter, the lettuce, the mayonnaise, and a cup of coffee. Anything else?
Bobby: Yeah, now all you have to do is hold the chicken, bring me the toast, give me a check for the chicken salad sandwich, and you haven't broken any rules.
Waitress: You want me to hold the chicken, huh?
Bobby: I want you to hold it between your knees.
Sometimes, you just want plain toast, and this Fall I'm finding myself drawn to uncluttered basics. I just want a great sweater, a classic skirt, and a ring I can wear everyday. These are a few pieces I have my eye on, things that will slip seamlessly into my wardrobe, and provide plenty of layering options. And they all hold their charms: an overlong shirt dress that can be worn a number of ways; an A-line skirt rendered in neoprene; and a sweatshirt with twist. Sometimes, plain toast is the best thing you'll eat all day.
