The North Pond Nature Sanctuary served as the perfect backdrop for an engagement photo session on Sunday. They looked to be barely in their late-20s: she in her L.L. Bean puffer vest, perfectly knotted scarf, and knee-high boots, he in his shawl collar sweater and jeans. A photographer shouting out directions on how to perform love seems to be in competition with the honking geese.
Smile! Look excited!
Walk down the pier hand-in-hand!
Hug her as though you'll never see her again!
Wrap your leg around him!
Smile, and laugh, and look into each other's eyes, but don't talk, talking ruins the picture!
I accidentally slip into the frame of one of the photos, a dark specter bearing a funereal wreath. That one definitely won't make it into the album.
Silent love preserved. Nature preserved. It's all beautiful until this shit freezes over in a month.
